This project, created to help address the severe problem of protein deficiency among the people of Idjwi island, began several years ago, with valuable support from Chrisitian, a young student at my school. Last year, thanks to a successful GoFundMe campaign, it really moved ahead in leaps and bounds. The poultry house was completed, guinea fowl were bought to protect the chickens, an enclosure fence was constructed, and other improvements made. Now I have closed the campaign, but in October we will receive a grant from an organisation here in Rome, Fast For Food, which will enable us to develop the project and help more people. Kizungu refers in particular to pregnant women and nursing mothers whose health was dramatically improved through receiving eggs from the project. We all look forward to what the next 12 months will bring in terms of development.
